The photo is a close up but it

Is at an angle.

The colours are dull neutral colours with kander uses colours such as greys and blacks for the background. Even the person who is in the photo is wearing a brown jumper.

The mood of the person is looking serious and I think it ties in with the colours as they are not bright colours they are dark colours. The person in the camera is not making any eye contact I think they have done this to show the mood.

The background could also have been photoshoped as  the different the blacks and greys are mixed together.

While you can create dimension a number of different ways, there’s no doubt that using light and shadow is a powerful way to accomplish this, and three point lighting is the lighting technique most commonly used.
